To drive an ordinary car you need a class B driver's license. This allows you to drive a passenger car with a gross vehicle weight of 3.5 t and a trailer with a gross vehicle weight of 750 kg. In addition, the class B driving license also includes the classes AM and L, so you can also drive mopeds up to 50 cc and agricultural tractors up to a maximum speed of 40 km/h. The path to a Class B driver's license, however, is both time-consuming and costly. What costs will I have to pay?
If you think that the cost of the driver's license is only based on the practice hours and the exam fees, you will now unfortunately be a bit disillusioned. In addition to these obvious costs, there are other cost items that come your way, which are explained in more detail below.
Basic amount
Before you are even allowed to attend theory courses and practice lessons, you will have to pay a basic amount to your driving school for administration and theory lessons. This amount is about 200 euros and is usually charged directly at the time of registration.
Special trips
The special drives are part of the compulsory program of every practical driving course for the class B driver's license. A total of twelve special sessions of 45 minutes each must be completed. Four of these are made on the highway, five over land and three at night. Usually the prices for the special driving courses are on average 39 Euro per unit and are therefore slightly more expensive than a practice lesson.
Practice hours
In the practice lessons, one generally learns how to drive the passenger car. These are tailored directly to the needs of the student, so that, for example, parking maneuvers or hill starts can be practiced. On average costs one driving lesson about 32 Euro.

Examination costs (theory test)
Before you can take the practical test, you have to prove your theoretical knowledge. The cost of the theoretical driving test at an accredited company such as TÜV or Dekra costs 22,49 Euro. In addition, there are usually costs of about 40 Euro for the registration for the driving school exam.
Test costs (practical test)

First aid course

Passport photos

While the basic amount is usually paid directly upon registration, the subsequent services are usually invoiced in installments, for example, after a certain number of driving lessons. If a driving school does not allow such an installment payment, there is the possibility of financing through a banking institution. In this case, a non-earmarked installment loan for a fixed loan amount that is paid off over consistent monthly installments is a good option. However, you can only take out an installment loan if you are of legal age. If this is not the case, your parents or grandparents, for example, could act as a second borrower.
