How many passengers can travel in one vehicle?

It has been established that only one person per row of seats can travel in both private and public vehicles, with the greatest possible distance between occupants.

In case you are accompanied, and to follow the recommendations of the World Health Organization, it is advisable that the passenger takes the back seat to maintain a distance of at least 1 meter from the other person, and that both wear a mask to avoid possible contagion.

Since you can drive only for reasons of force majeure, it is necessary that you always carry a document confirming it. Ask for a certificate if you need to go to work, and if you buy necessary products in the supermarket or in an institution, do not forget the receipt. Driving without a receipt is punishable by a fine of up to 600 euros.

In which cases can I drive?

In general, it is prohibited to drive on public roads during the period of the state of alert. Driving is allowed only for the following activities: 1. Obtaining food, medicines and basic necessities. 2. Support from health centers, services and facilities. 3. Traveling to the workplace to carry out their work, whether professional or business. 4. Return to the place of habitual residence. 5. Assistance and care for the elderly, minors, dependents, disabled or vulnerable persons. 6. Travel to financial-. Insurance facilities. Travel to financial-. Insurance Facilities. 7. Due to force majeure or an emergency situation. Any other activity of an analogous nature that must be carried out individually, unless accompanied by disabled persons or for any other justifiable reason.

Can I drive with my expired driver's license?

Permits that expire during a state of alert are automatically renewed for the duration of the state of alert and up to sixty days after it ends.

What if my car has to go through the MOT these days?

The technical inspection service will be suspended until the end of the state of alert, and you will not be fined if it is after the 14. March has expired, although you will be fined if it expires before that date.

I am doing my driver's license and it expires on these dates, what can I do?

Do not worry about it. If you receive a permit, the validity period of your application will be extended by the duration of the alert condition so that you do not lose the application.

I am a foreign driver, how does this affect me?

You can continue to drive under the same conditions as before the declaration of the state of alert.

In addition, the time that the alert situation lasts will not count towards the six months that you can drive in Spain with your foreign driver's license. Therefore, the six-month period is stopped and resumed as soon as the alarm situation ends.

Can I take my car to a repair shop?

Yes, the opening of workshops for the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles is allowed, as well as complementary activities for vehicles registered for circulation.

However, we recommend that you first contact the chosen workshop to make sure that it is open.

How to complete my formalities at the traffic center?

Even if you cannot come to their offices in person, DGT offers the possibility of accessing practically all of their procedures telematically. Ask if it is possible to do your procedure through their online services, electronic registration or by phone.
