Those looking for a used compact often look to models like the VW Golf, Opel Astra or Ford Focus. Toyota Corolla or Mazda3 are also typical – who has the Fiat Tipo on their radar?? The Tipo ranks as the Golf competitor in Fiat's portfolio. For a compact car, it is already quite large as a notchback with just under 4.40 meters. The result: a lush interior. However, during the main inspection (HU), it also leaves a lot of room for criticism. Model history 20 years after Fiat discontinued the old Tipo, the Italian manufacturer introduced a new model with that name in 2015. The Tipo was redesigned at the end of 2020. Since spring 2022 a hybrid version is in the program. Body variants As a classic, albeit rather stretched compact car, the Tipo is available as a hatchback, sedan and station wagon. A crossover version of both the hatchback and station wagon was launched with a more robust outfit. Dimensions The Tipo's dimensions are 4.37 m x 1.79 m to 2.00 m x 1.50 m to 1.56 m (LxWxH) with a trunk capacity of 440 liters. The dimensions of the station wagon are 4.57 m x 1.79 m to 2.00 m x 1.51 m (LxWxH) with a trunk capacity of 550 to 1650 liters. Strengths Drive shafts, steering and steering joints remain in the HU according to the "Auto Bild Tüv Report 2022" inconspicuous. The rear lighting performs at least averagely. Oil loss occurs, but remains within limits according to the report. Weaknesses "There are problems in all disciplines", according to the Tüv report. Especially the brake discs, which are very often criticized at the first HU, are a major shortcoming. Also after only three years, the foot brake very often only works poorly. And the front lighting and the axle suspension stand out with greatly increased defect rates. Rust on the chassis and exhaust system are rare, but do occur at the second general inspection. Prospective buyers should pay attention to a fresh sticker. Breakdown behavior The ADAC gives the Tipo a mixed report card. In the breakdown statistics of the club the model occupies places in the midfield. The ADAC cites discharged batteries in vehicles first registered in 2016 and 2017 as the main cause of breakdowns.
