Daimlair: Mercedes Benz 300 SEL on air!
The Mercedes Benz 300 SEL is used to air yes…
The connoisseurs will cry out: The Mercedes Benz 300 SEL was nevertheless already ex factory on air on the way! Yes, that's right. But there it was driving around one or two floors higher…

Mercedes Benz 300 SEL Tuning @ Deep in the forest Heritage
Thuringia in October 2020. We traveled to Suhl. The city known simultaneously as the "City of Arms" and the "City of Peace". But we were, of course, because of "Deep in the forest" and the with security present over cars on site. And of course we were not disappointed. The event has a reputation like thunder. Did justice to this also in the anything but normal year 2020.

Deep in the forest with profound changes
But just as nothing went as usual in the calendar year in question, there were changes in "Tief im Wald" as well. After a quasi non-existent tuning season one agreed with every kind of edition. A Visitor limit of 1000 people was there really to get over. Especially since this was not a disadvantage from the point of view of media representatives anyway.
But the probably biggest change was the Change of location. Deep in the forest" became "Deep in the industrial park Simson". But the change from green to gray did not dampen the mood on site. On the contrary. The new backdrop provided great photo backgrounds and was generally well received. And since the strings of lights that were otherwise scattered in the forest were also allowed to move, the industrial park got evening a unique flair missed. You could almost think you were at an early Christmas market.
Because while there was fantastic fall weather during the day, it cooled down massively after the sun set. However it turned out that mulled wine helps very well at the place. We did not know at that time that in 2020 we would no longer be closer to Christmas market feeling would come. But we knew Photographed a hell of a lot of cool old cars had…

"Deep in the forest" was this time called "Heritage" and devoted itself exclusively to models, which went in the last millenium from the volume, thus older than 20 years were. According to the continuing hype about old and older vehicles there were of course enough Mega exhibits, who applied for a place at the event. The level was very high as you would expect for TiW. Although we wanted to photograph as many vehicles as possible after a very article-poor year, we were forced to be selective.
It was simply too crass, actually one could have dedicated an article to each exhibited vehicle. To our selection belonged in any case the Mercedes Benz 300 SEL, to which this article is dedicated.
Mercedes Benz 300 SEL Tuning on fleek
What can we say: it does not get much more noble in terms of old car. The Daimler, or better "DaimlAir" has inspired us alone because of its overall condition. We can do the following on vehicles that have several decades on the hump have to live with a certain patina. But this Mercedes Benz 300 SEL really looked like it was made from scratch.

Of course it will not have rolled out of some barn in this condition. We assume comprehensive Restoration work. Everything else would be really unbelievable.

The classic BBS rollers fit like a glove and sparkle with the numerous chrome parts of the Benzo.

Since the Mercedes Benz 300 SEL is a factory W109 with air suspension the installation of a modern air suspension system is not so far-fetched. Even if the luxury sedan in the 1960s was more about air for comfort.

The W109, which we photographed for you in Suhl, is a Mercedes Benz 300 SEL with a 3,5l-engine, which was was used from 1969 to 1972 and had 147 hp.

Our conclusion
We can't get enough of classics that are in super condition and have been skillfully refined. This Mercedes Benz 300 SEL has been modified, but not tinkered with. And this is exactly how we think classic cars should be treated. Great cinema!
