Berlin. In the latest edition, which was launched on the German market at the beginning of 2012 with the epithet Tourer, although only five seats are still part of the standard equipment. Opel keeps the predecessor as the Zafira Family in its range, however. However, anyone interested in a used car from this generation has to reckon with frequent breakdowns.
The "TÜV Report 2013 The insurance attests that the car has "a lot of light and also all kinds of shadow". The inspectors admonish: On a second-hand Zafira, the expensive brake discs and exhaust should be new. During the main inspections (HU), the car was noticed more often than average due to worn-out bearings on the front axle. The brake discs of all years are frequently worn in. The inspectors also criticize short-lived exhaust systems and leaking fuel systems. The second generation of vehicles also loses oil more frequently.
The third generation does not yet appear in the ADAC breakdown statistics, but the Zafira B at least occupies a lower place. For it mainly the generators are-. Particulate filter problems responsible. Defective turbochargers were found in 1.9 CDTI engines built up to September 2006. The same aggregates fell through defective alternators. Shifting problems with the automatic transmission have a negative impact. Clogged particulate filters caused trouble on examples up to November 2007. Problems with exhaust gas recirculation were also experienced by the 1.6-liter gasoline engines until the end of 2005.
The Zafira (Type A) was launched in 1999. This was followed by the CNG natural gas version and a model update in 2003 with mainly visual upgrades. In 2005 Opel launched the second generation (Type B), which got another facelift in 2008. The new Zafira Tourer has been on sale since early 2012, with the base price unchanged. Common to all models is the retractable seat system.
Gasoline, diesel, natural gas and autogas engines are available for the Opel Zafira. The gasoline engines of the second edition interesting for used car buyers come to 77 kW/105 hp to 177 kW/240 hp. The diesel engines cover a power range from 74 kW/ 100 hp to 110 kW/150 hp. With natural gas drive, the Zafira B has a maximum output of 110 kW/150 hp, with autogas drive 103 kW/140 hp.
For a powerful gasoline engine like the Zafira 2.0 Turbo Cosmo from 2008 with 147 kW/200 hp will cost around 12,150 euros according to the Schwacke list. But then the car shouldn't have more than 81,800 kilometers behind it. The Zafira 1.9 CDTI Automatic Selection from 2010 with 88 kW/120 hp self-igniter still costs about 10,350 euros (68,900 kilometers).
